Step #1: Submission Guidelines
How to Enter
Submit your entry by following these steps:
1. Prepare your kimchi-based dish according to your own recipe.
This year’s contest focuses on:

Creativity: Assess how uniquely and innovatively kimchi is used in the dish. Give priority to recipes that incorporate new combinations or original ideas.

Visual Appeal: Evaluate the visual quality of the dish based on provided photos or videos. Consider color, composition, and plating to prioritize visually attractive dishes.
​
Explanation and Storytelling: Assess how clearly and easily the recipe is explained, as well as the interest and significance of the story behind the dish. Favor entries that effectively convey the meaning and story of the recipe.
​
Public Response: Consider the reaction on social media, such as likes, comments, and engagement, to gauge public reception. Evaluate how positively the dish is received by the audience.
​
Practicality: Evaluate how easy the recipe is to follow, the availability of ingredients, and its practical application in everyday cooking. Give priority to practical and accessible recipes
Selected entrants will be invited to submit their recipes through our recipe portal. This will help standardize the format and archive the recipes centrally. These entrants may be finalists, or an additional round of vetting may be conducted to choose the final participants.

Step #2: Selection and Final Event
Selection Process and Final Competition
Three participants will be selected by our judges to compete in the final event:
​
1. The selected finalists will compete at The Shops at Skyview, K-Fun Summer School Event.
40-24 College Point Blvd, Queens, NY 11354 on Jul/28/24.

2. Judges will select three finalists to compete in the grand finale in New York. We will contact the selected applicants via email or phone by Jul/17/24
​
Finalists must confirm by Jul. 21, 2024, their ability to participate in the final. We will cover the airfare and accommodation (Up to $500) costs for the finalists.

Step #3 Final Event and Prize Distribution
The final competition will involve:
​
1. Famous chefs and a panel of judges will taste and evaluate the dishes prepared using the finalists' recipes.
​
2. Prizes will be awarded based on the judges' decisions:

1st Place: $2,000

2nd Place: $1,000

3rd Place: $500
The organization awarding the prize must file a 1099-Misc to report the award to the IRS. So, the entrants required to fill out Form W-9. Form W-8BEN is filed by the Foreign National prize winner to report the prize award and the withholding to the IRS. Finalist who attends the final competition have the responsibility to provide personal information for the IRS Form 1099-Misc(Form W-9), or Form W-8BEN.

3. Written request to sign on Disclaimer
The event hosts and coordinating organizations reserve the right to use any recipes, photographs, or videos taken at the event without expressed written permission of those included. The event hosts and coordinating organizations may use the recipe/photograph/video or any additional submissions provided by the individual user(s) and/or team in publications or other media material produced, used, or contracted by the event hosts and coordinating organizations, including but not limited to social media, brochures, invitations, books, newspapers, magazines, television, websites, etc.
To ensure the privacy of individuals and children, images will not be identified using full names or personal information without written approval from the photographed subject, parent, or legal guardian.
Any person attending this Kimchi Contest who does not wish to have their image recorded for distribution must alert the photographer(s) and/or the event organizers.
Any person or organization not affiliated with the event hosts and/or coordinating organizations may not use, copy, alter or modify Kimchi Contest photographs, graphics, media, similar reproductions, or recordings without advanced written permissions of an authorized designee.
